Why Kolekwi

Kolekwi keeps your team's conversations between the people in them.

Your team's conversations belong to your team.

Kolekwi is team chat built on one idea: a message should be readable by the people you send it to, and nobody else. Not us, not advertisers, and not a platform you never chose.

Private by default.

Every message in Kolekwi, direct or group, is end-to-end encrypted on your device before it leaves. We run the service, but we can't read what you write. There's no setting to find and no administrator who has to switch it on.

That isn't how most workplace chat works. Microsoft Teams encrypts chat on its way to and inside Microsoft's data centres, but its end-to-end encryption covers calls and meetings, not your chat messages.

Based on Microsoft's published Teams documentation, September 2026.

Honest about what we can see.

To deliver messages, we still need to know some things: who is in a conversation, when messages were sent, group names, and reactions. Our privacy policy lists exactly what, so you don't have to guess.

Simple on purpose.

Kolekwi is a chat app. It doesn't try to become your file storage, your calendar or your office suite, and it doesn't steer you into a family of products. Share a file, and its contents are encrypted too.

Your history, on your devices.

Set up a recovery key and you can restore your message history on a new device from your latest backup, protected by a key only you hold. Messages set to disappear aren't included.

Why we built it.

“I used Skype for years because it just worked. When it was retired and replaced by Teams, the simplicity went with it. Kolekwi is the chat app I wanted instead: simple to use, and private by design.” (Erik)
